Boss Katana KTN50 Electric Guitar Amp Combo Last Remaining Stock Display Stock

What We Think

This amp is a fantastic piece of kit and the positive comments from all the customers that have bought one is a testament to it. The amp itself looks great but the sound it produces from its custom 12” speaker is awesome!

For a 50watt amp it’s still loud enough to gig and so easy to use. The clean tones are so natural and crisp and the rock tones are floor shaking but what do you expect from an amp that is loaded with all of Boss’ flagship effects. You can also customise the effects when you connect to the BOSS tone studio editor software via USB.

What more could any guitarist want from an amp? And the price is surprisingly low for such a versatile amp.

Sheena Savage

Rimmers Music Leyland.

The boss Katana KTN-50 is a bedroom practice amp on steroids! It has enough power to be gigged with because of its power scaling function (from 50w to 25w to 0.5w) with loads of cool effects, programmable presets and a few different amp styles.

Amp Sounds

The amp has got 5 different amp styles that you can choose from:

  • Clean - Crystal clean sounds
  • Crunch - A touch of overdrive with mild breakup
  • Lead - Higher gain for stinging blues solos or fast shred!
  • Brown - Super high-gain sound taken from the Japanese Boss Waza amp
  • Acoustic - Amazing acoustic setting so that you can use the amp with your electro-acoustic guitar

Effects Available

So once you have chosen your amp sound and set your EQ (Bass, Middle, Treble) you can choose the effects you want to run. The amp has got effects on board but you also have access to 55 other effects through the BOSS tone studio app. You can connect your amp to your computer via USB and then upload the specific effect you want on the amp and save it as a preset. A maximum of 3 effects can run simultaneously but you can choose what those effects will be. If you want simple drive, chorus and reverb you can do so. But if you want to be more experimental by combining ring mod with a slicer then you can set that up with the Tone Studio.

It has 2 memory slots for you to save you favourite sounds and quickly recall them. For example, you could load up a mild rhythm overdrive on tone slot 1 and a screaming lead with loads of delay on tone slot 2.

Power Scaling

The power scaling is an idea borrowed from the Katanas Blues Cube brother where you choose if you want the amp to run at 50w for full volume and power or down to 0.5w for late night bedroom use. It makes the amp really useful if you want 1 unit that can do band practices, as well use it at home without waking the neighbours. And because it has a 12" speaker, you can play with a band without losing too much low end or worrying about your guitar sounding too thin in the mix.

  • Stage-ready 50-watt combo amp with a custom 12-inch speaker
  • Five unique amp characters: Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown (derived from the Waza amp), and Acoustic (for acoustic-electric guitars)
  • Choose from 55 customizable effects with BOSS Tone Studio editor software
  • Store 15 different effects on board, with three effects available simultaneously
  • Dedicated gain, EQ, and effects controls for adjusting sounds quickly
  • Two memories for storing and recalling all amp and effect settings
  • Power Control for achieving cranked-amp tone and dynamic response at low volumes
  • Built-in tilt stand for optimal monitoring and sound projection
  • Pro setups available at BOSS Tone Central

Great amp plenty of sounds. Great service from Rimmers would use them again

October 8, 2019 |

Excellent. It has voiced channels giving you the core clean, crunch, lead and brown sound. It is not cold and sterile like plenty of budget amps. Regardless of whether it’s close to a tube amp; it sounds great.

You get access to 55+ boss pedals via computer software ( Boss Tone Central). The Katana 50 now has 4 preset spaces and the Katana 100 now has 8 preset spaces when you update via their website. Use your PC to fine tune the settings. There’s also what’s known as the ‘sneaky amps’ you can google and load into the software and upload on to the amp. This gives you access to a load of other amps to hone your sound. They are striving to keep it simple while allowing you to go more in depth if you wish.

Having the ability to change the wattage is great for bedroom practise and you can really crank it up if using headphones.

There are few foot pedal solutions available for each model and it’s certainly recommended if you have the Katana 100. I would recommend the Katana 100 over the Katana 50 but depends on your needs and budget.

Although it came out the end of last year, I think this is product of the year and I suspect sales support it. Plenty of ‘long in the tooth’ guitarists are using these and it’s a great start for beginners. It sounds better than the modelling amps in its class.
