What We Think
The FKM is Faiths Short scale Parlour Acoustic entry into their fantastic stripped back “Naked” range. Designed for comfortable play with its smaller body the Mercury still manages to retain a lot of warmth despite its size. Just as with the rest of the “Naked” range the body comprises of a solid Engelmann spruce top along with solid Indonesian mahogany back and sides which, in particular with the Mercury, gives a fuller, woodier tone than your standard parlour. The Brilliant Patrick James Eggle X-Brace Design Bracing allows this small Acoustic to be fairly mighty. Also allowing the Mercury to give a warmer, rounded tone is the distance between the bridge and sound hole. The increased distance means that the warmer tones are accentuated, giving the Mercury a sound closer to that of a larger body acoustic. The Naked Mercury is a wonderful combination of bright and warms tones, giving this extremely comfortable acoustic guitar a great overall sound for many playing styles.
The Naked series from Faith guitars have become a firm favourite with many guitarists, because of their “nakedness” of cosmetic additions and non-essential features. All the models are 100% solid tonewoods and offer fantastic playabilty. The Mercury model is a Parlor size body offering ease of playing from the smaller body shape. The top is solid Engleman spruce and is complimented by solid Mahogany back and sides , the whole guitar has a satin finish , again not taking anything away from the great natural tone of this model. For the sheer quality of woods and workmanship in these naked models , they are well worth a look if you are considering a quality all solid model at a reasonable price.
Faith have been creating guitars since 2002 and are well known for making great guitars for affordable prices; and the Naked Mercury is no exception to that claim.
What makes the Faith Naked Mercury a distinctive guitar is the stripped down aesthetic it has. Overall a very minimalist look, with a thin satin finish and no binding- you are left with a guitar that is stunning and sings.
The Mercury is made up from 100% Solids tonewoods; the top wood is Englemann spruce and complimenting this is a pairing of Indonesian Mahogany back and sides. This pairing gives you, the player, a well-balanced tone and sound. The guitar’s thin satin stripped down finish gives the wood flexibility to breathe more, allowing the sound to vibrate through the wood more freely and yielding a larger sound then you would expect from similar sized guitars.
This small bodied parlour guitar packs a punch!

Faith Guitars - Premium Quality at Affordable Prices
The Faith brand doesn`t lend itself to a `budget` build though so don`t be fooled into thinking these are anything less than quality guitars. Whilst seeking to make Faith guitars that were more accessible to a larger number of musicians Faith creator, Patrick James Eggle and the rest of the Faith team, set out to strip back their guitar designs whilst still retaining all the key Faith elements. Faith pride themselves on producing hand-crafted, all-solid, immensely resonant guitars and this hasn`t changed with this Naked series.
All Solid Top, Back & Sides
The Naked Mercury guitar consists of a Solid Engelmann Spruce top and Solid Mahogany back and sides; a two-stage satin finish all over; a rosewood fingerboard, bridge and head plate; chrome plated Machine heads; and a 2mm abalone sound hole rosette.
Rich Tone Woods
The FKM Mercury has a Mahogany back and sides and as such delivers a tone focused on the mid-range. The tonal characteristics would look like a frown if visualised on a frequency curve; lower at the bass, curving up through the middle and dipping again at the top end. The Mercury`s tone is warm and sweet meaning all the notes blend well together. This makes the Naked series ideal for strumming and accompaniment purposes and means it will sit comfortably in a mix when recorded.
Natural, Resonant Finish
Faith believe Satin finished guitars sound livelier as the unrestrained tonewood can move more freely allowing more sympathetic resonance throughout the instrument and creating a more naturally `woody` tone. This tone is equally evident in the Naked Series which has a simple 2-stage satin finish on the top, back and sides letting the guitar breathe and move with no restriction.
