Kawai CA58 Satin Black Digital Piano
What We Think
The CA range of digital pianos from Kawai are part of their Premium Concert artist range , offering to the pianist a superb standard of digital piano giving a unrivalled playing experience, really not found at this level of piano in other brands.
The sound source is the incomparable Shigeru SK-EX concert grand piano sound and the Ca58 also has the highly acclaimed Kawai EX piano sound.
These samples are generated with Kawai’s Harmonic Imaging sound Technology, which really does faithfully reproduce a warm exciting full piano sound. The Ca58 also has a total of 42 other great sounds for you to enjoy, dual function as well allowing the player to combine 2 voices for a fuller sound. Also split mode and 4 hand mode, which allows a teacher to play the piano at the same time as a pupil.
The keyboard on the Ca58 is made up of 88 black and white “wooden” keys with Ivorite keys tops, absorbing fingertip moisture to ensure a great playing experience. The keys are on a metal balance pin which gives the player a smooth seesaw action and feel. The extended pivot length gives a really natural weight balance to the action, and the action also incorporates grade weighted hammers with further added bass region counter weights. The action has 3 sensors per key giving the player the ultimate smooth agile playing experience in playing trills or fast musical passages very smoothly without any unnatural breaks.
The CA range has on board the Virtual Technician which allows the player to customise sounds on the piano, in altering string resonance and other ambient features to suit the player’s environment.
The Ca58 is also Bluetooth enabled, allowing you to access a wide variety of music related apps. There 100 drum rhythms to play along to. There is the Lesson feature with 542 songs built in, including works by Burgmuller, Beyer, Bach, Czerny and the Alfred series of piano tuition books. The player can slow the music down so that they can play along at their speed to learn the pieces on board. And for the non-player there is Kawai’s Concert magic feature, great fun for all the family in that you select a tune from the 176 recorded in the piano, and play any key along in time and create music from the piano. There are also 16 registrations memories where you can save you own personalised settings and this model has 2 x 50 watts of output. The CA 58 model is available in various colours.
The Kawai CA58 features the latest in design keyboard design and action. The GF Compact action has been designed in order to replicate the authentic touch characteristics of leading Grand Feel keyboard actions.
Using the standard long wooden keysticks for all 88 keys and the same seesaw action featured on centuries old pianos, the extended pivot point in this compact design provides more consistency when playing towards the rear of the keyboard. This technology pushes the CA58 to the top of its class rivaling even their grand pianos!
The CA58 incorporates grade-weighted hammers, counterweights in the bass region and let-off simulation. The triple-senor key detection system allows you to repeat a note (such as trills) and produce a smooth natural sound.
Two of Kawai's flagship grand pianos are sampled to produce a rich and expressive sound. The Shigeru Kawai SK-EX and EX have both been faithfully sampled in order to create an upright digital piano with the sonic capabilities of a high-end grand piano. Making use of Kawai's advanced Harmonic Imaging XL technology, with complex algorithms and extra long sampling, the sounds are true across the dynamic range - from a delicate pianissimo to a rapturous fortissimo, without any sudden changes. With the 256 note polyphony, notes will not 'drop out' unexpectedly during florid passages.
The Virtual Technician feature allows various settings to be amended at the touch of a button, whether it be for the instrument, reverb settings or damper settings. Individual tuning and volume can even be adjusted for individual notes and stored to memory for easy recall.
A wide range of features are available to complement the wooden keyboard and piano sounds. Having integrated Bluetooth allows the piano to communicate with your smart device using the Sound Museum and Virtual Technician iOS apps to adjust settings remotely and a range of educational and teaching tolls for aspiring pianists can also be accessed. More advanced features such as Dual and Four Hands modes divide the digital piano into two distinct halves allowing student and teacher to practice together on one instrument. The advanced Spatial Headphone Sound technology provides extra realism to the sound when using headphones and therefore helping to reduce auditory fatigue when used for long periods of time.
Using the powerful in-built MP3/WAV recorder and player, song files can be loaded from a USB device can be played through the powerful 100W 4-speaker system or for performances to be recorded, overdubbed and shared online. USB-MIDI and MIDI connectors allow you to hook up to a computer and other devices and also gives stereo Line In and Line Out connections to allow use in larger venues.
