Kawai CA98 Digital Piano Satin Black Package
What We Think
The CA range of digital pianos from Kawai are part of their Premium Concert artist range , offering to the pianist a superb standard of digital piano giving a unrivalled playing experience, really not found at this level of piano in other brands.
The sound source is the new Shigeru SK-EX rendering sound engine, with ONKYO technology. Kawai’s collaboration with Japans leading audio producer has further enhanced the 88 key full sampling with the latest resonance modelling technology. Onkyo’s impressive 1-Bit processing with Dual DAC signal conversion Being the Flagship model of this range ,the Ca98 has the Twin drive Soundboard system. On this model there are Onkyo transducer components to channel sound energy onto a Real Wooden Soundboard! as found on real acoustic pianos. Resulting in a truly magnificent experience for the player, giving a rich and natural acoustic sound to this model.
The sound is further advanced by newly developed resonance algorithms which physically model all the complex vibration of the strings, soundboard and the pedals, to give the player a truly impressive playing experience.
The Ca98 has a5” touch LCD screen allowing very easy access to the functions of the piano. The Ca98 has additional alternative acoustic piano sounds, through Ex concert series, Sk5 chamber grand to the K-60 upright model, allowing the player to experience many different sizes of piano and so many different sound characteristics. Dual function is also available, allowing the player to combine 2 voices for a fuller sound. Also split mode and 4 hand mode, which allows a teacher to play the piano at the same time as a pupil.
The keyboard on the Ca98 is made up of Kawai’s latest Grand feel ii action, with 88 black and white “wooden” keys with Ebony and Ivory simulated keys tops, absorbing fingertip moisture to ensure a great playing experience. The keys are on a metal balance pin which gives the player a smooth seesaw action and feel. The extended pivot length gives a really natural weight balance to the action, and the action also incorporates grade weighted hammers with further added bass region counter weights. The action has 3 sensors per key giving the player the ultimate smooth agile playing experience in playing trills or fast musical passages very smoothly without any unnatural breaks.
The CA range has on board the Virtual Technician which allows the player to customise sounds on the piano, in altering string resonance and other ambient features to suit the player’s environment. And on the Ca98 this is again accessed very easily from the LCD touch screen.
The Ca98 is Bluetooth enabled, allowing you to access a wide variety of music related apps. There 100 drum rhythms to play along to. There is the Lesson feature with 542 songs built in, including works by Burgmuller, Beyer, Bach, Czerny and the Alfred series of piano tuition books. The player can slow the music down so that they can play along at their speed to learn the pieces on board. And for the non-player there is Kawai’s Concert magic feature, great fun for all the family in that you select a tune from the 176 recorded in the piano, and play any key along in time and create music from the piano. There are also 16 registrations memories where you can save you own personalised settings. This model has a powerful 3 x 45 watts of output. The CA 98 model is available in Premium black satin, premium rosewood and premium white satin
From the full size wooden keys to the real wood soundboard Kawai have managed to produce an amazing sounding digital piano. There are so many new features that I just love, starting with the brilliant full colour touch screen panel that’s so easy to use and all the sounds are just amazing whether listening to them through the 6 incredible high spec speakers developed by Onkyo or through the headphones using the new CA98 spatial headphone sound technology I was amazed by the depth and top end shimmer of each individual sound (which there are over 88 of!)
They have even reinvented the humble music rest to make it extra wide and adjustable up to 6 different angles so it can be adjusted to suit the players height and playing position and it will even set to a composers desk which is great when noting scores or sketching ideas.
I could go on and on about this piano but instead I will just say….buy one you won’t be disappointed!
