Kawai uses there Harmonic Imaging Technology to deliver a very convincing, warm and real piano sound. The sample is the Kawai Shigeru SK and EX models of grand piano, and they are really superb , full of warmth and character up and down the keyboard. Both models have a number of other great sounds (Es110 19 ,Es8 34 ) all very useable and you can also combine sounds to create an even fuller sound from the piano. Very important to many people is the action , the feel of the keyboard when you play. On the Es110 it is the RH compact action whilst on the Es 8 more refinement again with the RH action. Both actions are springless in their design and are weight graded across the keyboard, offering a very realistic feel to your playing , being a heavier feel at the bass end of the keyboard and lighter at the treble end , just as you would find on a real piano. They employ 3 sensors per key , giving you very accurate control of your playing both in Fortissimo and legato playing being able to achieve loud and soft playing very easily. The action also simulates the “let off” feel of a real piano creating the “notch” feel that actions of real pianos have. On both of the Es models is Kawai’s Virtual Technician which allows you to alter characteristics of the sounds on the piano. Features as string and damper resonance , reverb room settings and various other settings , allowing to taylor the sounds to suit yourself . There are also Registration memories where you can store the settings you have change, to instantly recall them . The pianos have a selection of drum backing styles that you can play along to , further enhancing your playing experience. And on the Es8 they have Chord recognition in the left hand. Worth a mention is the in built lesson feature on the Es110 , containing works by Burgmuller and the Alfred series of piano tuition books . These pieces you can follow and learn at your own speed with the lesson feature. Also on the Es110 is the Concert magic ! which is a great feature allowing the non player to select 1 of the in built songs , and by playing any key create the song they have chosen. Both models have various line out sockets on the rear panel . allowing connection to PA systems if needed. The Es110 has Bluetooth connectivity ,whilst the Es8 has Usb recording and play back , two really great features which are a must for many muscians. The Es110 has a output of 2 x 7 watts , and the Es8 2 x 15 watts, both really delivering a vibrant and full sound. The Es range from Kawai is certainly worth a look if you are considering a piano of this style, They both deliver a very real piano sound full of character and really a joy to play.
