Used Gerb. Perzina Polished Mahogany Upright | Leyland Store
This Gerb.Perzina is in good condition, with only a few dints here and there, but nothing major. These dints are on the far right and far left (of the wooden panel next to the keys), on the top of the piano and one on the top of the lid when down (all pictured). It has a great feel with a slightly light action key feel, and is on the brighter side of a balanced tone, as opposed to being a more mellower sounding piano. Gerb. Perzina’s design differs greatly from that of the standard Kawai and Yamaha, and are much closer to the higher-end designs of Bechstein and Sauter of Germany. This a great upright acoustic piano and would suit suit any player from beginners through to pro’s.

HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
Gebr. Perzina was founded on July 1st, 1871 by brothers Julius and Albert Perzina in Schwerin Germany. Perzina pianos developed a strong reputation throughout Germany and the rest of Europe, eventually operating the largest piano factory in Northern Germany by 1900. Perzina’s factory was decimated by WWII, and in the aftermath, production was moved to the German town of Lenzen. In the 1990s, the company’s ownership changed hands and it was determined production would no longer take place in Germany, with production shifting to China.

In 2003, a new factory was built in Yantai China where Perzina pianos are now produced. Perzina also manufactures G. Steinberg pianos, which are a lower-cost option, available for distribution in North America.

Perzina currently produces three sizes of uprights and four sizes of grand pianos. Upright pianos consist of the 45” GP-112 and GP-115, 48” GP-122, and the 51” GP129. Grands consist of the 5’1” GBT-152, 5’5” GBT-160, 5’10” GBT-175, and the 6’2”GBT 187.

Perzina utilizes several unique designs features not found with other manufacturers, such as the floating soundboard design on uprights (part of the soundboard is not attached to the frame, which Perzina claims allows the soundboard to vibrate more freely).

They also utilize a “reverse” soundboard crown in both grands and uprights which they claim leads to greater crown retention over time.

Despite Chinese assembly, Perzina still uses many high-quality European components. High-quality components include tight grain Austrian White spruce soundboards, Renner and Abel hammers, and Delignit pin-blocks. Perzina has achieved the “90% European Components” designation from “European Standard Quality”.

G. Steinberg uprights are offered in four sizes; the 45” RH-111 and RH-115, 47” RH-119, 40” RH-123, and the 50” RH-126. Grands are also offered in four sizes; the 5’1” GBT-152, 5’5” GBT-160, 5’10” GBT-175 and the 6’2” GBT-187. G. Steinberg grand pianos are essentially lower cost “copies” of the Perzina grands.

Cost savings are achieved by using simpler Chinese hammers instead of Abel hammers, simpler cabinets. G. Steinberg’s uprights are do not use the same design as Perzina uprights, and are positioned to compete against other entry-level options.
