Yamaha Clavinova CLP675R Digital Piano Rosewood Package

Yamaha CLP675

The CLP675 is equipped with the amazing new 'GrandTouch' keyboard with offers more leverage than a traditional digital piano. This reduces both the strength that you need to apply to the key, as well as allowing you to be more expressive in your playing. Achieving this was no easy task as a grand piano mechanism is very complex, so Yamaha has moved the fulcrum (pivot point) of the key to the back. This length of key support is the same as found on the Yamaha S3X Grand Piano (£60,000). In addition, the highest quality synthetic ebony and ivory keytops reproduct the feel and surface of those old acoustic pianos which also help to eliminate finger slip after long periods of practice or performance. The feeling of the lifting of the hammers is also present with the addition of the 'escapement' mechanism, adding further to the realism of playing a real grand piano.
Enhanced 'VRM' (Virtual Resonance Modeling) accurately reproduces the exact reverberation response as would naturally occur on a real grand piano. From Damper Response, String Resonance, Body Response and more to add even more bright and vivid expression which occurs during a performance. Yamaha's 'Smooth Release' technology is also present on the CLP675, which provides either the crisp sound of a staccato note, or the lingering sound from a slow release.
Grand Pianos also sound different dependant upon how a key is played, and the CLP675 knows this. With the combination of 'long samples' and Yamaha's repeated testing and adjustment by numerous professional pianists, you'll notice how the sound varies according to touch, from being soft and gentle with a light touch, to lound and powerful with a heavy touch. 'Key-Off' samples offer additional realism by replicating the subtle changes which occur in the tone as the damper is lowered back onto the string.
The keyboard of the CLP675 also had the added benefit of 'Linear Graded Hammers', which means that every key on the keyboard has a different weight as well as key return. This is because, on a real piano the strings become thinner (and shorter) as they move towards the treble register. Another great feature which helps to give the pianist a more authentic experience.
Even the Damper Pedal gives the Grand Piano feel, thanks to the 'GP Response Damper Pedal' which is only featured on the higher-end range of digital pianos offers a true grand piano-style resistance curve. This means that the pedal is light to touch and gradually gets heavier as its pressed further down.
'Binaural Sampling' guarantess the best possible grand piano experience with the added benefit of locational information and other piano naunces the the human ear can pick up. Even with headphones, the Binaural sound is automatically an immersive experience allowing you to fully appreciate the sound of a concert grand piano at home.
Wireless Bluetooth connectivity is also a standard feature, allowing seamless connection to your Iphone, Ipad, Ipod Touch or Android Device. Great for streaming your favourite music without the constraint of wires and playing along with your favourite tracks.
With 36 superb built-in sounds and a 16-track sequencer on hand you can create your own performances. And with the USB Audio Recorder you can save your performance as a .Wav file to either share with friends and family or use in your favourite editor.
Connectivity is comprehensive with the inclusion of Midi In/Out and Thru, Stereo Mini-Jack Line in, USB Flash Drive Socket and USB-Host connector. You can also output to external PA via the Stereo Aux Out. Two headphone sockets are fitted for private practice.
What We Think...
Wow, what a superb piano this is! Playing it feels as though you're actually playing a real grand piano, and there is a difference between this plays and the lower models in the series. There are so many technologies being employed by Yamaha to ensure that you receive not only the best possible sound, but as many of the characteristics of a real grand piano as is possible with a digital instrument. Our music teachers also love any of the CLP series but especially like the CLP675 due to the level of control and emotion which can be portayed whilst playing, whether it be Rachmaninoff or Mozart.
Featuring Binaural Sampling you really must try this piano with headphones as well. The sound is emmersive, crisp and true to life. You won't be disappointed!

Introducing GrandTouch and ebony keytops

The newly developed GrandTouch keys offer more responsive touch and a greater dynamic range than ever before. The pianist can experience a natural, balanced response from the tip to the very back of each key. The black keys on all keyboards of the new CLP-600 series are finished in ebony. Synthetic ivory key tops reproduce the tactile surface of the real ivory keyboards that were once used in older acoustic pianos. It features highly absorbent material that prevents fingers from slipping even after hours of practice, while retaining the ideal texture and feel.

Real grand piano tone

Two world-renowned concert grand pianos in one. The powerful tone of the flagship Yamaha concert grand, the CFX, and the unmistakable sound of a Bösendorfer Imperial are available at the touch of a button. In the CLP-685 you will also find the Yamaha C7 Studio Grand. In additional to this, all models from the CLP-635 upwards include an Upright Piano voice.

Piano Room

Physical modeling techniques provide authentic reproductions of internal grand piano reverberations and offer rich, endlessly varying expressive capabilities. VRM reproduces the resonance characteristics of the strings for every note on the grand piano keyboard in nuanced detail.

Enhanced Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) for rich and bright sound

In a grand piano, sound resonates throughout the body of the instrument, producing a rich reverberation that envelops the listener in sound. These phenomena are reproduced perfectly in the Clavinova through Yamaha Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) technology. The piano body resonates just like an acoustic piano. The acoustic system of the Clavinova reproduces the sensation of the entire piano vibrating, just like the feeling of playing an acoustic piano.

Even headphones produce a larger than life experience.

Thanks to advanced binaural sampling technology, you can enjoy the highly realistic sensation of playing a concert grand piano even when you are using headphones. For the first time Yamaha’s advanced binaural sampling technology is now available on the Clavinova. The technology uses samples from the CFX recorded with specialized microphones that capture locational information and other nuances discerned by the human ear. The resulting sound is so natural, so enveloping, that you’ll soon forget you’re even wearing headphones at all.

Built-in Bluetooth audio

You can play along with music from your favorite music apps via the Clavinova’s built-in Bluetooth interface.

Grandtouch Feel

The CLP675’s keyboard features the highly regarded Grandtouch system. These keys have a specially dried wooden core which has the classic feel of an acoustic piano. The keytops benefit from a synthetic material which has a similar touch as ivory and ebony. This makes the CLP675 suitable for traditional acoustic players who want each key to have a robust feel. The weighted hammer action has a smooth and consistent motion, allowing musicians to have an expressive response. This playability and likeness to an acoustic piano is ideal for advanced musicians wanting their performance to feature all of their subtle playing nuances.

Piano Samples

Versatility is a necessity for both modern and traditional pianists. Yamaha’s unique sound uses sampling from two bespoke acoustic pianos for the most crafted tone possible. The CFX is Yamaha’s most appreciated concert grand piano, whilst the Bösendorfer Imperial is widely regarded as one of the world’s finest acoustic instruments. By combining the characteristics of these instruments, Yamaha’s samples have the detail and authenticity of a true acoustic piano. The keys are sampled individually, before being tuned with each other so that your performances sound as natural as possible. Yamaha bring acoustic expression to digital convenience with the Clavinova’s samples.

VRM Physical Modelling

The Virtual Resonance Modelling technology optimises your piano’s resonance. In an acoustic piano each note blends with the next for natural swell and decay of sound. The VRM uses an advanced register to measure the strings’ distance and interaction with each other. It can also calculate the intensity of your performance and add an appropriate decay of each note. This gives the CLP675 a more acoustic feel with textured tones, removing any unnatural breaks in sound.

Binaural Sampling Technology

Yamaha’s advanced binaural sampling technology gives the player a fully immersive concert grand experience - even with headphones. The technology uses samples from the CFX, Yamaha’s acclaimed concert grand piano, recorded with specialised microphones that capture locational information and other nuances discerned by the human ear. The resulting sound is so natural that you’ll forget you’re even wearing headphones. Once you choose the Yamaha CFX Grand Voice and put headphones on, the binaural sampled sound is automatically ready and no additional settings are required. Now you can fully enjoy the concert grand experience at home, with or without headphones.

3 Way Speakers

Yamaha have equipped the CLP675 with two 3-way speakers to project your sound. Each speaker contains 16cm, 8cm and 5cm drivers which each cover a frequency range. The sound is rich and dynamic, but retains the clarity needed to hear each note’s voicing. The speakers are tactfully positioned to reflect the bass frequencies downward and the treble frequencies up, producing the most authentic sound. Each amplifier can produce up to 105 watts of power, making the CLP675 suitable for gigs, studios and classrooms. This model’s intuitive 3-way speakers provide musicians with the projection and tonal quality needed to have an advanced sound
