Yamaha CVP 709 Clavinova Digital Piano | Walnut Black

Yamaha CVP709
The Flagship of the Yamaha CVP range, the CVP709 is the ideal candidate if you want the flexibility and interactivity of the Yamaha Tyros Keyboard workstation, coupled with the expressive nature and feel of a real concert grand piano. Initially captivated by the premium modern cabinet style with its 3 leg configuration, you'll instantly be drawn to the huge full colour touchscreen LCD display. Ultra responsive and easy to read, the LCD screen allows to you control almost every parameter of the piano. Selecting a sound or backing style is childs play, simply select a voice or style category, and touch the one that you want - it really is that simple!
The CVP709 also boasts the amazingly tactile NWX Natural wood keyboard with escapement. This reproduces the feel of the let-off and drop of the hammer when a key is played very softly. The keys are also graded meaning that they are slightly heavier at the bottom register and go slightly lighter at the upper octaves. This is just how a real piano works! In older pianos the keytops used to be real ivory which helped to absorb moisture in the fingers especially after long periods of playing, to prevent your fingers from slipping. On the CVP709 we have synthetic ivory keytops which feature a tactile but highly absorbent material which helps to replicate the feel from a traditional acoustic piano. Key counterweights also help to improve playability when a quicker key return is required (eg during fast performances).
Pedal feel is also important and the CVP709 also features a damper pedal which detects the level of depression allowing the player to Half-Pedal. The pedal also offers variable resistance, initially being a light feel and growing heavier as it's depressed. This gives additional expression to your pedaling just as it would be on a grand piano.
VRM (Virtual Resistance Modeling) is a great feature which Yamaha have developed with their 100+ years of experience building real pianos. With a grand piano the strings and sounds resonate throughout the body of the instrument which offers an incredible level of reverberation which envelops the player and listener in sound. The strings don't just vibrate however, but the other strings react in 'sympathy' to the ones that you play. VRM perfectly reproduces this natural phenomena by calculating the different states of the strings from one to the next.
Choose from either the amazing Yamaha CFX Concert grand piano sound or the awesome new Bosendorfer Imperial and you'll immediatly be convinced that you're playing the real thing, but without the £256,000 combined price tag that these prestige pianos command.
However a great piano rely's on more than just the quality of the samples, it's also the amplification system. Yamaha are experts in this field, having experience in world famous concert hall installations and providing some of the best home A/V equipment in the world. So you'll find 7 speakers delivering an incredibly high clarity of sound. The Spruce cone speaker is manufactured from wood pulp taken from the manufacture of their acoustic piano soundboards. Last (and certainly not least) is the 'Twisted Flare Port' - this is a specially designed bass port which allows the sound to quickly exit the bass port, delivering a far more superior punch than a traditionally manufactured bass port.
Over 1700 sounds reside within the CVP709 and each and every one is intricately detailed with superb clarity. From the sparkling modern electric piano voices to the awesomely detailed and emotive tenor saxophone. Sound technology is derived from the Yamaha Tyros 5 Workstation, with the amazing 'Super Articulation 2' which gives the most accurate representation of voices never before heard in an electronic instrument. Rather than a simple 'sampled' sound being triggered when a key is pressed, 'SA2' offers other acoustic elements of the voice, from Heads (the sound before, eg a trill, or note bend), the Body (which is the main voice with its natural reverberation), the Joint (the transition from one note to the other, either with a glide or gliss) and the Tail (what happens after the note finishes, eg the note slides down or tails off). With the CVP709 there are an aresenal of these amazing SA2 sounds for you to choose from, each one offering the same level of incredible detail. Also on offer are incredible organ sounds covering all musical tastes, from the Wersi Helios and Hammond B3 to the Mercatorhalle Concert organ in Duisburg. Vocals are now a new introduction to the CVP world with gospel singers, mens and boys choirs and  much more which only add to your performance.
You'll also never run out of Accompaniment styles with over 600 at your disposal. From modern rock (Bon Jovi?), Pop (Phil Collins) and classic rock (Eagles) to the more traditional types of music (ballroom, foxtrot and waltz) you can be sure that you will find your favourite, and if you're struggling you can simply use the built-in music finder and choose from the preprogrammed setups so that you can play straight away.
Connectivity is comprehensive, featuring Midi In/Out/Thru, USB Device & Host, Auxilliary Input and Output, External Pedal support and RGB Out.
What we think...
Offering unprecedented sound quality coupled with the amazing feel of a grand piano, this is a superb instrument for players of any ability. The backing styles are powerful and detailed, many also feature backing singers which either 'ooh' or 'ahh' as you're playing. Gospel styles are particularly fun and a brilliant way to develop your playing style. Super articulated voices are also taken from the legendary Tyros keyboard and with added detail, coupled with the immense speaker system ensure that you can hear every naunce of every sound.
This is a flagship piano for a reason. You'll immediately be captivated by the sheer quality and detail of the sound, the backing styles are the best that we've ever heard and every voice is so intricately detailed that you'd be hard pushed to distinguish if from the real thing.

Your dream piano studio awaits.

The enhanced Piano Room now includes the world-class Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial grand pianos, plus vintage electric pianos. In Session Mode, you can invite three virtual musicians into the room to "jam" with you as you practice and perform in one of 40 different musical styles. These session musicians will automatically follow your harmonies and your volume expression using the new Dynamics Control feature. You can selectively activate and deactivate each one depending on your musical needs at the time. Within this special room, you can even record your sessions with the touch of a single button.

Virtually every instrument Yamaha builds can be found inside.

Yamaha is the World's largest manufacturer of musical instruments, and CVP Clavinovas contain high-resolution, high-definition recordings only possible from a company with this rich herritage. Super Articulation (SA) and Super Articulation 2 (SA2) Voices are both highly advanced and easy to use, making you sound like a pro. With them you'll hear the most realistic reproductions of legato and staccato performance techniques that are so essential to playing bowed and wind instruments. By simply varying your touch and playing techniques or using the pedals, SA and SA2 Voices will add significant authenticity to your sound.

When you want to play more than just piano.

One of the defining features of a CVP Clavinova is the multitude of different Styles that can be controlled in real-time by playing chords on the keyboard. Accompaniment Styles introduce ensembles of virtual musicians to your performances in a variety of musical genres. From small jazz ensembles to full orchestras, you control what chords or harmony they play by what YOU play, plus you control the dynamic of the ensemble. Developed by professional session musicians from around the world, Styles add authentic, studio-quality backing players to your performances - even when you play by yourself. You can use Styles to add embellishing Intros, Endings & Fill-Ins and even arrange songs in real-time.

Now anyone can play a hit song, one light at a time.

CVP Clavinovas are very patient: if you don't play the right notes, they wait until you do! This is made possible with the CVP's unique Guide feature. As the easiest way to play a song, the Follow Lights library teaches you popular melodies in a way only possible on a CVP Clavinova. Just follow the lights one note at a time, and fully-arranged orchestrations and arpeggios embellish your playing. Here, you don't play along with a recording, the recording literally plays along with YOU. Visit www.yamahamusicsoft.com/followlights to browse the entire library today.

Get connected and start singing.

You can connect a microphone to enjoy singing along with your keyboard performance or using Karaoke song files from YamahaMusicSoft.com. All input jacks are conveniently located at the front of the instrument, under the keybed for easy access. Only Yamaha could build an instrument with studio-quality effects like reverb, echo and even Vocal Harmony. Alternatively, you can connect a portable music device such as an MP3 player or smart phone to enjoy listening through the Clavinova's high-definition speaker system.
