FG800 Series: Things you need to know

- Solid top acoustic guitars
- Scalloped X Bracing for more volume and more bass
- Carefully built to last a lifetime
- Series includes a reimaging of the classic FG180, limited to 250 pcs in Europe
The FG800 models have been developed based on extensive research as well as feedback from players, dealers, customers and industry experts. We found that lots of things didn’t need to be touched – But there was a consistent theme: People wanted to go back towards the original FG180 sound with just a little more volume, a little more bass, a little more oomph.
To achieve this, we relied on a proprietary software that the Yamaha Elemental Technology division created to analyse and simulate the tonal characteristics of musical instruments, from a construction viewpoint. This way, we were able to understand exactly what the bracing was doing to the top of the guitar to create the instrument’s voice – and we could backwards engineer a design to give us the tone we wanted.
The result of this unique engineering approach is a totally new scalloped bracing pattern. It gives the FG800 models more volume, more projection, more low end and a bigger tone for the player – everything we set out to do. In addition, the new bracing pattern moves the resonant centre much closer to the middle of the guitar, with a big impact on both the tone and the feel to the player. Furthermore the FS-Models get a shallower body (90-110mm) compared to the 700-Series (100-120mm) for improved playability especially for beginners.
But the goal was not only to create a guitar that sounds great today, but one that also lasts for a lifetime. So we did just that while staying at the forefront of guitar-building technology – as the FG Series always has. A solid top board, a 0.25mm thin finish for great tone and superior wood protection, a super-comfortable thin neck profile and a thin back and sides construction ensure maximum volume and resonance with long-term stability.
The first choice in experiencing acoustic-electric music.
Derived from FS800 which has the solid spruce top and nato/okume back and sides, FSX800C has a cutaway body and the electric system. Yamaha's proprietary under-saddle piezo pickup and System66 analog preamp ensure the solid plugged-in performance. The small and thin body is perfect not only for female/young players but for intermediate to upper level finger-picking style players.
System 66 feature an under-saddle piezo pickup developed by Yamaha. Controls include a 3-band EQ, an adjustable mid-range frequency control, and a precision chromatic tuner for optimum sound tailoring. The system is powered by easy to obtain AA-size batteries that provide a stable power supply for improved sound quality.
