Yamaha P125 Digital Piano Black Advanced Package

What We Think

The P-125 is the newest addition to Yamaha’s portable piano range, replacing its predecessor the P-115. The overall appearance of the piano is similar to the P-115, but the same cannot be said for the features. Yamaha’s CFIIIS 9’ Concert Grand piano is sampled superbly into the P-125 to give you an amazing piano sound, but if for whatever reason this isn’t to your liking, they have now included 3 variations so you can find a piano sound that suits. The same goes for the other voice categories (Electric Piano, Organ, Clavichord/Vibraphone & Strings), so you really can find a perfect sound for you. The enhanced 2-way speaker system gives you an authentic sound that, considering this is a portable piano, gives the impression you’re sat in front of an acoustic upright piano.

Leyland Store

Building on the success of the Yamaha P115, Yamaha release the P-125 digital piano boasting impressive looks and all new features. They've upgraded the speaker system to provide a more realistic piano tone when playing, added Table EQ which allows you to tailor your sound when playing in different environments, included drum tracks and rhythm patterns to accompany you and they've integrated smart device control for controlling many of the onboard functions.

The Yamaha P-125 looks sophisticated and is compact enough to fit into most home environments. At just over 11kg, the P125's lightweight design also makes it a great choice for gigging musicians, band practice and studio use. The 88 note, fully weighted keybed provides the player with a realistic experience, ideal for those doing grades or wishing to improve their overall technique. There's two headphone sockets for quiet practice, plenty of effects and sounds to explore plus USB connectivity. Overall, the Yamaha P-125 piano will be a fine choice for pianists of any ability.

What are Yamaha P-Series Digital Pianos?

The P-Series of Yamaha pianos have been made to give you exceptional value for money while giving you access to some of Yamaha's world famous high end sounds and technology. They've got stylish looks, unrivalled playability at the price point and beautiful piano sounds. Other models in the range include the best selling P-45 and the P255. If you're a beginner or a parent looking for a digital piano for your budding musician, the P-Series is a fine range to choose from.

What is the Smart Pianist APP?

The Smart Pianist app lets you take control of many of the P-125's on board functions via a smart device. For example, you could set your iPad on the music rest and use it to select voice, rhythms and other Yamaha technology all on screen. There's chord recognition when playing back audio from your device and a host of other capabilities.

What rhythm types are included?

The Yamaha P-125 features on board accompaniments to help you keep time and practice playing along with rhythms. From rock to swing and everything in between, these tools can help to improve your playing abilities in a short space of time.

Pure CF Sound Engine

The Pure CF Sound Engine has been developed over numerous years to take into account over a century of work developing the acoustic piano sounds. Using state-of-the-art technology the Yamaha CFIIIS 9' Grand Piano has recorded and reproduced for the digital pianos. The Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) 88-key keyboard replicates an acoustic piano so you have a heavier touch in the bass and a lighter touch at the high end.

Authentic Piano Performance Space

An improved 2-way speaker system creates an expansive sound both upwards and downwards allowing you to hear a rich sound to mimic sitting in front of an acoustic piano.

Table EQ

The newly developed Table EQ allows you to maintain the best acoustics, even whilst playing on a hard surface to get the best sound possible.

Backing Tracks

The on-board bass and drum tracks are there to support your playing. Theres a wide range of different tracks to cover a variety of different genres - rock, ballads, jazz and Christmas to name a few. These sounds can add to your practice or as a virtual drummer.

Smart Pianist App

A host of features can be controlled via the Smart Pianist App such as voices and rhythms. Your favourute settings can also be save to easily recall at a later date. Another function allows you to discover the chords used in audio tracks in your iPhone or iPad instantly.

Sophisticated Design

Whilst being designed, the user was priority. Every element has been designed to help keep the player focused on their playing. The minimal light reflection on the surface of the piano and the understated speaker design help to keep the player focused.

I recently purchased the Yamaha P-125 bundle and I must say that overall I am very pleased. The piano itself has a great feel and weight to the keyboard ( I wouldn't even mind it being a bit heavier) and the onboard sounds are superb. The main piano is brilliant, the pipe organ is delightful, and the polyphony is very adequate. The P-125 is not packed with endless gadgets and features (which is a good thing), so it's uncluttered and brilliantly simple to operate. The piano comes with a pedal which is not the best I have seen. It would make a good start stop for a drum machine, but there is not the required feel to make it very useful as a sustain pedal. However, this was not a huge problem for me as I have other Yamaha pedals which are much better. The double X keyboard stand is very sturdy and I like the quick-release height adjust - very good. The only slight problem was that the bars that the piano rest on are not quite parallel so the piano rocks by a couple of mm. I tried it with my PF80 (1985 vintage) and it was no problem. The older keyboard solved the issue due to its weight being enough to 'straighten' the stand. But the P-125 is so much lighter that tiny imperfections in the stand were noticeable. I am sure that some pipe lagging or similar will resolve it. The bench that was part of the bundle is very well built and comfortable. It was about 2cm too low for my liking and is not adjustable, but the keyboard stand can be adjusted to compensate. But I would have liked this bench to sit between my P-125 and my acoustic Yamaha E108. The carry case is of good quality and very roomy - could fit a much larger keyboard if required. There are 3 equally-sized external pockets to store things, but none are quite large enough for the music stand, so the stand has to be put in the main compartment with the piano - not ideal. Also the strap length is a bit long to use as a carry handle, and a bit short to use as a shoulder strap. It may be designed to be used as both, but for me it is slightly awkward as either - would prefer carry handle length OR shoulder strap length. The headphones are poor fitting and poor sound quality. The earbuds that came with my phone are better. I can't really comment on the book and DVD, they were of no use to me (a self-taught jazzman). However, overall this bundle represents great value for money. The piano itself is excellent. The stand, bench, and case are great, but the pedal and headphones are not up to the rest of the package. Still... would recommend it as a package - you get a lot for the money.
