Yamaha Revstar RS720B Vintage Japanese Denim
The Yamaha Revstar RS720B in Vintage Japanese Denim takes its inspiration from the Cafe-Racer motorcycles that dominated the London-scene in the 1960s. With smooth lines and a vintage-inspired outline, the Revstar RS720B exudes an undeniable cool-factor yet still manages to stand out as an original design, ready to help you make your mark on stage. The RS720B's body is made from mahogany for a fantastic warmth and resonance, crafted with a smooth forearm cut and deep tummy contours for a thoroughly-comfortable playing experience during long playing sessions. The maple top enhances the guitar's bright overtones, giving you a complex sound that will really bring out the nuances of your playing. The set-neck design and dual cutaway body gives effortless access to the top frets, while the fast-playing neck with 13-3/4'' radius fingerboard ensures you'll be riffing and soloing with no limits. A pair of custom-wound VT5+ pickups create a low-output sound with great nuance; perfect for vintage-inspired tones. An additional Dry Switch also allows you to create single-coil tones without the inherent hum, while Bigsby tremolo provides access to subtle vibrato effects. The Revstar range of guitars give a nod towards vintage instruments yet really hold their own as a brand-new design. They sound as good as they look, so this is one guitar that you really won't want to put down.
The Revstar range of guitars takes inspiration from Café-Racer motorcycles of the London scene in the '60s. The stylish outline, specially-chosen colour combinations, and elegantly understated design features create a guitar with the visual appeal of a classic instrument, yet with a modern edge that will really stand out on stage. The double cutaway design, minimalist headstock, flamed maple laminate, and distinct scratch-plate come together to create a guitar with a quiet-confidence and mature aesthetic that wouldn't look out of place with classic guitars from 50 years ago.
Despite the vintage-inspiration, the Revstar RS720B is super-comfortable to play, courtesy of its body contours. A tummy-cut and deep forearm contour means you'll be able to play long into the night without any discomfort, whether stood up or sat down. The body is finished with hand-brushed satin for a wonderfully smooth and tactile feel. The set-neck design with uniquely ergonomic neck joint also creates a smooth playing-feel when you're reaching the top frets for those high-range solo moments.
The RS720B's neck has a thoroughly modern playing feel to enable easy soloing and rhythm work. The rosewood fingerboard creates a smooth playing surface for the left hand and the 22 jumbo frets provide incredible control over the strings for bending and vibrato techniques. The RS720B's double cutaway body and smooth set-neck joint provide no barriers to the top frets, while the fingerboard has a very modern 13-3/4'' radius which is only slightly rounded to enable easy string bends and excellent balance across the strings.
The body and neck are crafted from mahogany for a warm and resonant sound with great sustain. This tonewood is often chosen for classic rock and blues guitars due to its warmth and mid-focus, yet it performs equally well in blues, country, jazz, and many more styles. A maple top enhances the guitar's bright overtones, bringing out the top-end of your sound and helping harmonics ring with clarity.
The Revstar RS720B is mounted with two VT5+ pickups. These units use alnico V magnets with a low-output for a vintage-inspired tone with excellent nuance and balance. A 3-way switch gives access to powerful bridge-position sounds, mellow neck-position tones, and the bright combined-coil sound. This combination is ideal for multiple genres of music and will let you explore many different sounds.
An additional Dry Switch is accessed via the Push/Pull tone control and provides the sound of a split-humbucker for a delicate single-coil tone. It achieves this using a passive filter which is designed to give the perfect frequency response. By filtering out the low frequencies, this switch gives the punch and clarity of a single-coil minus the associated hum and often "hollow"-sounding tone from splitting a humbucker. This gives you a far more balanced and usable single coil tone, radically expanding the tonal potential of this guitar.
A Bigsby B50 Tremolo provides the final touch to this guitar and gives access to subtle vibrato effects on single notes or on full chords. The tuning stability is guaranteed by locking tuners, so you can confidently alter the string pitches with the Bigsby tremolo, safe in the knowledge your strings will remain in tune.
"Tonally, the RS720B is just as good as its looks would suggest. The VT5+ pickups have a lovely, airy quality that permeates clean and dirty sounds, adding an excellent level of detail and breathiness to everything you play. These pickups are surprisingly versatile and excel particularly at medium gain Rock tones and Blues/Jazz tones where plenty of dynamics are required. The ‘Dry’ switch works extremely well at cutting the lower end of the frequency range for simulated single coil-esque tones and remain noise free throughout."
" The 720B is a superb guitar with high quality design choices, a great aesthetic, superb tones and excellent playability."
