Amazing Effects

The Zoom B1Xon Bass Effects Pedal offers 75 spectacular effects, including compressors, noise gates, filters, equalizers, octave dividers, boosters, phasers, flangers, fuzzes, pitch shift, tremolo, vibraro and plus chorus (...and breathe). But that`s not all, the B1on also includes some more advanced and charismatic effects such as a sub-octave generator, an intelligent bass synthesizer that plays along with you in a completely different key, and even includes a "DeFret" effect that changes the tone of a fretted bass into that of a fretless bass. You`re literally spoiled for choice with the Zoom B1Xon!

You can tweak each individual effect to your liking, and chain together up to 5 different effects simultaneously. Let your creativity run wild. After tweaking your sound, the B1Xon will automatically save your configurations and store them away for easy and instant access in the future. There`s no longer no need to worry about losing that sound you`ve been working on.

Tuning Up

All bassists know the importance of playing in tune, Zoom do too! The Zoom B1Xon Bass Effects Pedal has an integrated bass tuner to take all the stress out for you. The tuner is accessible at any time, just step on the two pedals together, and the LCD screen will immediately tell you whether your notes are in tune. The tuner can be used chromatically and carries a variety of standard bass tunings.

Perfect Practice

The Zoom B1Xon Bass Effects Pedal contains a rhythm function that carries 68 realistic samples of actual drums playing real life patterns of a variety of different genres. These beats range from emo to mowtown, metal to jazz, and everything in-between. Dozens of quarter-not, eighth-note and sixteenth-note rhythms are all included in a number of different time signatures, allowing you to practice those rhythmic scales while still having plenty of fun!

The Zoom B1Xon is also equipped with an on-board looper. Perfect for solo play or rehearsal, the looper gives you the opportunity to expand upon those groovy basslines you`ve been working on. The looper allows you to layer up to 30 seconds of high-quality audio (16-bit 44.1kHz), using the effects of your choice. Starting and stopping the loop is as easy as pressing the pedal, absolutely no hands required! The looper can also be used in conjunction with the Rhythm function.

Superior PowerThe Zoom B1Xon Bass Effects Pedal can be powered with the Zoom AD-16 AC power adapter which plugs into any standard wall socket. However, for extreme portability, the Zoom B1Xon can also be run on just 4 AA batteries. If powered by using batteries, the B1on will automatically power up once a jack is inserted into the input, and what`s even more impressive is that the B1on will run for more than 20 hours of continuous use, and you can use the LCD Display to find out exactly how much power is remaining. Zoom have added an "eco" function that will power down the unit if it hasn`t been used for 10 hours.

Zoom B1Xon Bass Effects Pedal

I wanted an effects pedal with a decent number of effects and a tuner. The B1Xon seemed to fit the bill and I was not disappointed. First it is well built. I can see this being able to stand up to a lot of use, including the pedal. I had a problem many years ago with the pedal on a Zoom 707 but this seems much sturdier. The instructions are clear and I got set up in minutes. The tuner is so easy to use. I then played around with the effects. A few of them seem very similar to others but there are 100, and then by mucking around with the parameters I got myself some great sounds to work with. I've used it almost daily for the last couple of weeks but I've really only just begun - there is so much more to try out. The loop effect could prove quite fun and useful but as I'm recording my sounds anyway using the Zoom R24, I haven't gone into that. I also use a drum machine, so haven't used the rhythm a great deal, but again for someone practicing alone, this gives a good backing to play along to. The patches can be adjusted to produce exactly what you are looking for, saved and can then be moved around the banks so that they follow each other in sequence. This means that when you're on stage and want to switch between two different effects, you're not pressing the foot switch 47 times to switch between them! The only thing I would query is whether I need the pedal, but for the extra few quid I think it may be worth it in the future. The batteries last "up to" 20 hours, but I always recommend getting the mains adapter and using the batteries as back up. I haven't used any other bass effect pedals but I've used a number of guitar effects pedals. I'm currently using a Boss ME80 which has a much greater range and variations, but then again is metal and costs over £200. When I started, I used the Zoom 707 and 707II. These gave me the introduction to effects I wanted before going onto bigger things. The B1Xon is very similar in this respect. For just over £50 the B1Xon is a great, well built, piece of kit that I'm sure will give me all the sounds and variation I need for a few years to come, and if I want to get more serious in the future I can go ahead and spend more money. Based on what I've found so far and the experiences I've had with Zoom products in the past I would certainly recommend this.
