Let's talk about the K Series - they have always been very popular since they launched in 2014. Within the K Series, are two popular models, the Kawai K300 upright piano and the Kawai K500 upright piano, each model has many similarities so it can make the purchase process quite challenging, however, there are subtle differences that set them apart so it may make it a little easier for you.

So, what do they have in common?

Well, firstly, with all K-Series pianos they have exceptional build and quality, due to being built with high-quality materials. Both the pianos have been created with beautiful tone and superb playability, with endless thought going into them which becomes more evident as you start to play. The K500 and K300 offer Millennium III action which is more sensitive to the player's touch, and is a huge step forward for grand pianos! Both pianos feature a soft fall lid and a longer music desk, they also share a similar aesthetic which features a sleek straight edged cabinet which is great for fitting into your home.

But, what sets them apart from one another?

The K500 is slightly bigger than the K300, although not a huge difference, the 8cm height may be something worth noting if you struggle for space. The K300 is available in 3 different colours, black, white and black with silver hardware, however, the K500 is only available in black. The K500 also has a slightly larger cabinet which allows for longer bass strings. As well as this, the 500 has an extended key length, which provides better control whilst playing, it also features NEOTEX keytop surface that resists cracking and fading over years of use, whereas the K300 keys are made from acrylic or phenol. Kawai has also added duplex scaling to the Kawai K500 upright piano, this enhances the harmonics in the treble range and adds brilliance and richness to the tone of the piano. When playing the pianos next to each other, you can note the difference between the K500 and the K300 that does not have the duplex scaling.

Conclusion

The K300 and K500 are both fantastic pianos, the 300 is an excellent piano to be considered for its impressive price point. However, the K500 has extra features that take it that one step further and push it to a different category of an upright piano. More experienced players are likely to appreciate the improvements on the K500.
