What's The Difference Between A Portable Digital Piano And A Cabinet Digital Piano? There is a vast choice when it comes to purchasing a digital piano. One of the decisions that has to be made is whether you want a Stage Piano or a digital piano with a cabinet. What's the difference? What would be more suitable for you? We talk to digital piano expert Barry at Rimmers Music Blackpool Store to find out the differences and which he prefers and why. Barry Explains, "Even though Digital Piano's generally offer a standard 88 keys there are many cabinet styles, from traditional to modern. Some are quite compact while others are designed to be big and bold closely resembling their acoustic counterparts. However there are many benefits to having a 'standalone' instrument, one of which is that they usually have considerably better speakers systems and amplification which gives a much richer and clearer sound. In addition there is the matter of convenience, as you can go to your piano, switch it on and play without messing around with stands and setting the instrument up. Last but not least is the list of features usually available. This isn't to say that it's always the case, indeed some stage pianos can be very well equipped. But usually a standalone instrument can offer more to the user." He continues, "Turning to the second option, the stage piano. These are a great compromise for feel, playability and portability. You will usually find 88 Weighted keys (some have more elaborate key systems than others but most tend to offer a real piano feel). Then there is portability, you can pick the instrument up if need be and take it to either a gig or small venue where you can have a great piano feel without lugging the weight around.
