• Rimmers Music Blog

The new Yamaha CLP800 range has been unveiled - CLP825, CLP835, CLP845, CLP865GP, CLP875, CLP885 & CLP895GP (All available in a range of colours). A new series of digital pianos designed to provide an incredible experience, equivalent to playing an acoustic grand piano, with thousands of people involved in perfecting the technology which creates this. Yamaha, a company with over 120 years of experience in crafting acoustic pianos ,like the 9-foot CFX, combined its expertise with cutting-edge digital technology to develop CLP-800 pianos which offer incredible realism, feel, and sound.

The Keyboard and Pedals:

The GrandTouch TM and GrandTouch-S TM keyboards and pedals in the CLP-800 series replicate the feel and control of a grand piano. Yamaha have adjusted the weight, shape, materials, and movement of the internal parts to create a keyboard that emulates the resistance and sensitivity perceived in the fingertips of pianists while playing on a grand piano. Pedals were designed to be the exact specifications of grand piano pedals to ensure that they travel the same paths when players depress and release them, giving even more control over their playing.

The GP Response damper pedal in the CLP-875, 885 and 895GP even reproduces the differences in resistance depending on how you are pressing the pedal, just like it happens in grand pianos.

The Sound and Resonance:

The CLP-800 series features a new tonal generator chip that delivers our highest-quality, most beautiful piano voices to date. The series also includes the voices of two world-renowned concert grand pianos, the CFX and the Bosendorfer Imperial, with its renowned Viennese sound. VRM (Virtual Resonance Modeling) creates a richly varied sound by simulating the complex sympathetic tones created when the vibrations of the strings are propagated through the soundboard and other strings. This technology produces more realistic and natural resonance than ever before.

Grand Expression Modeling:

In conventional digital pianos, simple tone generator algorithms limit the level of expression. In the CLP-800 Series, the Grand Expression Modeling takes into consideration the pianist's expressive input eg how hard or lightly the key is pressed, how quickly the key is released & key repetition. In this series, the piano precisely calculates how a grand piano would physically respond to it, and provides an accurate tone and texture to the sound. Pianists now have access to a wide range of musical expression, which was never there on a digital piano before.

Speakers

In the Yamaha CLP-800 Series, the speakers play a crucial role in replicating the rich and immersive sound of an acoustic grand piano. While traditional grand pianos project sound through their expansive soundboard, digital pianos rely on speakers to amplify sound. To address this structural difference and enhance the sound experience, Yamaha drew upon its extensive expertise in acoustic piano manufacturing. By optimizing the placement, orientation, and volume balance of the speakers across the low, mid, and high frequency ranges, the CLP-800 Series achieves a balanced and nuanced sound profile. Additionally, the incorporation of diffusers, waveguides, and Bidirectional Horns allows the speakers to utilize indirect sound reflections from the walls and body of the piano, enriching the reverberation and depth of the sound produced. These innovative design features work together to faithfully reproduce the natural reverberation and spatial depth of a grand piano within the surrounding environment, creating a sound field that closely mimics the acoustic grand piano experience.

Design and Connectivity:

CLP-800 Series pianos feature the many gentle curves that make the grand piano such a precious instrument. They have a wider music stand that is unobtrusive to the player's dialogue with the music and highly functional, as it can hold several sheets spread out. The series includes Bluetooth connectivity to stream your favourite songs and a free Smart Pianist app that allows you to control all aspects of the piano. Additionally, the 20 different and simple rhythm patterns let you spice up your performance with some backing musicians.

The Yamaha CLP800 digital piano series offers pianists an experience equivalent to playing an acoustic grand piano. The GrandTouch TM and GrandTouch-S TM keyboards and pedals emulate the feel and control of a grand piano, while the Grand Expression Modeling captures the pianist's expressive input to give an accurate tone and texture to the sound. The CLP-800 series is equipped with a new tone generator chip and Virtual Resonance Modeling that produces more realistic and natural resonance than ever before. With its design and connectivity features, the CLP-800 series is an excellent digital piano for anyone looking for an accurate grand piano experience.
